Seven Confirmed Dead in NY Building Collapse
New York authorities confirmed Thursday that seven bodies were recovered following the collapse of an apartment building Wednesday.
At least 20 people were injured and several are still missing.
The explosion caused the fire that continued through most of the day and when it got dark rescuers finally managed to enter the enclosure to rescue the victims.
Wednesday night rescuers finally managed to control the fire.
Harlem residents reported hearing an explosion in the five-story apartment building, located on the corner of 116th Street and Park Avenue, before it collapsed and from which could be seen a column of smoke.
In a press conference Wednesday, the Mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio, confirmed that the disaster was caused by a gas leak.
