At least two people were killed and 23 injured when a car drove into a crowd on Thursday morning near the music and film SXSW festival that takes place in Austin, Texas.
Police said they arrested a suspect linked to the incident.
The authorities said in a statement that a man had pierced the fences of the enclosure and had driven hitting several bystanders.
According to the Associated Press the suspect could have driven while intoxicated.
The police tried to arrest the suspect when he was parked at a service station but he fled, killing two people riding a motorcycle before he was arrested.
The suspect could face the death penalty.
