BOSTON – Friday, April 18, 2014 – Governor Deval Patrick today signed H. 3664, “An Act Relative to a Massachusetts Boston Strong License Plate,” which directs the Registrar of Motor Vehicles to establish a license plate memorializing the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings adorned with the phrase “Boston Strong.” All proceeds from sales of the license plate will be distributed to the One Fund or, in the event of its dissolution, another non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to the victims of last year’s Marathon attacks.
Friday, April 18, 2014 – Governor Patrick signs H. 3664, “An Act Relative to a Massachusetts Boston Strong License Plate.»
The Boston Strong license plate enacted to support the One Fund Boston and all of the victims and survivors of the Marathon attacks is tremendous not only in the financial support to this community, but also in the ongoing support and encouragement it will provide as this community continues their long and life changing recovery,” said representatives of the One Fund Boston. “Thank you to the entire state delegation, Governor Patrick, Mayor Walsh, Mayor Menino and all those that had a role in making this a reality. Seeing these plates on the road will help remind us all that we are one community and we are proud to be Boston Strong. One Fund Boston will continue its mission in supporting those most affected by last year’s attacks and plans for a second distribution this summer. The One Fund will continue serving its mission as long as it is effective and will continue to work with the survivors, victim’s families and our partners to ensure that our community will never be forgotten – they have lifted the spirit of our state and city through their courage and we are committed to supporting them as they continue in their healing process.”
On Friday morning, Governor Patrick also recognized members of the Patrick Administration competing in the 2014 Boston Marathon. Each qualifying runner was congratulated and presented with a citation from the Governor wishing them luck in the race.
The 118th Boston Marathon will take place on Monday, April 21. This year’s race will be one of the largest in history with 36,000 official participants and approximately a million spectators anticipated. The field of runners was expanded due to increased interest and demand in the wake of the attacks at last year’s race. Runners who were not able to complete the course last year were invited back for the 2014 race.
