PROVIDENCE – Representative Grace Diaz (D-Providence) endorsed Aquidneck Island businessman Guillaume De Ramel in his race to become Rhode Island’s next Secretary of State. Rep. Diaz has represented Providence in the General Assembly since her election in 2004, and is the Deputy Majority Leader in the House of Representatives as well as the Vice Chairwoman of the Rhode Island Democratic Party. The endorsement took place during a meet and greet hosted by Rep. Diaz and Providence City Councilwoman Carmen Castillo, an early supporter of Guillaume’s candidacy, at the Colony House Apartments at One Cadillac Drive in South Providence.
“I’m asking for you to support for someone that I have known and trusted since 2006,” Rep. Diaz told a crowd of more than forty residents. “When I bring people here it’s because I support them and I am here to tell you that I fully endorse Guillaume De Ramel for Secretary of State.”
“I’m thrilled to have the support of two extraordinary leaders,” said Guillaume, referring to Rep. Diaz and Councilwoman Castillo. “I’m running to create more opportunities for your children and grandchildren. As Secretary of State, I will help improve our business climate by transforming Rhode Island into the most open, transparent and accessible state in New England.”
Rep. Diaz joins Councilwoman Castillo as well as Johnston Mayor Joe Polisena, North Providence Mayor Charlie Lombardi, the Smithfield, Johnston and Charlestown Democratic Town Committees, Rhode Island State Association of Fire Fighters, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 328, Rhode Island Brotherhood of Corrections Officers, former Rhode Island Democratic Party Chairman Ed Pacheco – himself a former candidate for Secretary of State – as well as ten additional members of the Providence City Council and seventeen elected officials representing Cranston that have endorsed Guillaume.
