Rhode Island State Police Arrest Fourteen Subjects for Driving Under the Influence Over the Weekend Including One Subject Who had his Five-Year-Old Child in the Vehicle

Rhode Island – Colonel Steven G. O’Donnell, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of Public Safety, announces that as a result of an ongoing effort to ensure the safety of the motoring public by removing impaired operators from our roadways, a total of fourteen (14) individuals were arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor and/or Drugs during this past weekend, Friday, May 2, 2014 through Sunday, May 4, 2014.  One of these individuals was arrested late Friday night after being stopped for motor vehicle violations on Chalkstone Avenue in the City of Providence while traveling with his five year old daughter in his vehicle.

After troopers stopped the vehicle, the operator was identified as Enedith Avila, age 30, of 81 Bergen St, Apt. #2 Providence, Rhode Island.  While interacting with Mr. Avila, Troopers observed various indicators consistent with intoxication.  Also traveling in the vehicle was his five-year-old daughter.

Mr. Avila submitted to a series of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests at the scene, which he failed.  Mr. Avila was placed under arrest and transported to the State Police Lincoln Barracks.  Mr. Avila submitted to a Breath Test indicating a blood alcohol content of .208% and .205%.

Mr. Avila was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor and /or Drugs with a blood alcohol content greater than 0.15%.  Mr. Avila was issued a summons for the traffic violations: (1) laned roadway violations, and (2) turn signal required.  Mr. Avila was held overnight pending a morning arraignment before a Justice of the Peace and then released on personal recognizance pending future Sixth District Court dates.  Mr. Avila’s daughter was released to the custody of the child’s relative.

In addition to the aforementioned arrest, Troopers also arrested thirteen (13) other individuals for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor or Drugs and are identified as follows:

Joanna Ayres, age 30, of  123 Snell Street, Fall River, Massachusetts

– Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor and/or Drugs – BAC .15 or greater (Phase 1: .181 / Phase II: .193)

 

Samantha Beckman, age 22, of 8 Brenda Drive, Coventry, Rhode Island

– Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor and/or Drugs – BAC Unknown

– Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test

– Operating on a Suspended License

 

Ludilson DaSilva, age 25, of 35 Hillberg Avenue, Brockton, Massachusetts
