In what police said was an apparent suicide attempt, a 16-year-old student walked into his Denver high school cafeteria around 7 a.m. on Monday and set himself on fire. Using a fire extinguisher, a school custodian quickly doused the flames. No one else was hurt.

Before the incident at Standley Lake High School in Westminster, the teenager had posted a note online, which police are investigating.

He was hospitalized in critical condition, suffering burns over 80 percent of his body.
