SCITUATE, RI — Rhode Island State Police early today arrested two people for
allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, including one motorist
stopped for driving the wrong way on Interstate 95 in Hopkinton.

Also today, in an unrelated incident, troopers seized a gun from a motorist who was
allegedly travelling at speeds over 100 miles an hour on Interstate 95 in Warwick.

Captain Matthew Moynihan said the wrong-way driver was arrested about 2:15 a.m.
after several people called 911 to report a car driving north in the southbound
lanes of Interstate 95 near Exit 1 in Hopkinton.

Troopers spotted the car travelling in the high-speed lane, where it went off the
highway and struck a jersey barrier near Exit 2 before stopping.

The driver, Natasha Bedgood, 40, of 52 Candace St. in Providence, was arrested and
charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and refusal to submit
to a chemical test. She also was cited for driving the wrong way on the highway.

Another driver was charged with driving under the influence after troopers spotted a
car travelling more than 90 miles an hour in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95
in Warwick, near Jefferson Boulevard, around 12:10 a.m. today, Captain Moynihan
said.

After stopping the car, troopers arrested Amanda Pollard, 28, of 689 Weeden St.,
Pawtucket, for driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level greater than
.15 (Phase 1: 0.1777; Phase II: 0.182) and also cited her for speeding.

In an unrelated case, troopers seized a handgun after stopping a car travelling more
than 100 miles an hour on Interstate 95 South near Exit 15 around 3 a.m., Captain
Moynihan said.

The driver, Jhogel Florentino, 23, of 50 Lillian Ave., Providence, was charged with
driving with a suspended license and carrying a gun without a permit after troopers
recovered a handgun from the car.
