Lincoln, RI – R1 Indoor Karting, the first karting track of its kind in Rhode Island, has opened its doors to the public. The owners of the Collyer building, along with veteran European Go-Kart operator and world-renowned race car driver Mike Hezemans, have teamed up and made a $5 million private investment to convert 90,000 SF of warehouse space into R1 Indoor Karting, the anchor tenant of a dynamic / multi-sport entertainment complex. The karting tracks are now open, while the rest of the complex, which will feature upscale bowling and billiards, a restaurant, sports bar, indoor playground for children, private party rooms and a large event room, will open in the Spring of 2017.
“This will be the fastest indoor karting track in the United States, with speeds reaching up to 45 mph,” stated Hezemans. “The track was designed and modeled based on the European facilities I built in the Netherlands. We used European style asphalt, which makes this the only track of its kind in the U.S., making for a smoother ride, better traction and faster racing. For us, it’s all about giving our customers the best experience possible.”
R1 features a “Junior” track for ages 6-15 and an “Adult” track, both with 4 speed levels, so drivers of all ages and racing experience can participate and experience the thrill of karting. All karts are electric and powered by state-of-the-art green technology.
“We are very proud to bring this unique experience to Rhode Island – and all of the benefits that come with it. We created more than two hundred construction jobs for local workers over the last year. We have made a $5 million private investment into this facility. Once the entire complex is up and running, we’ll provide 75 full and part-time jobs with roughly $1 million in payroll. We’re excited to help put people to work and bring more money into the local economy. In addition, this is a green facility. R1’s brand new electric go-karts are powered by state of the art green technology, using the latest batteries, requiring less energy and producing no harmful gas emissions. ”
Hezemans concluded, “This is a unique family-friendly experience that everyone can enjoy. We are excited to bring the thrill of racing to Rhode Island.”

FUEL Restaurant & Sports Bar is created for the foodie in mind who desires a quality experience and a great tasting meal. FUEL will feature a full service liquor bar and large flat panel TVs to watch the games. Meticulously designed to create a unique, timeless atmosphere for all to enjoy, FUEL is set on a beautiful mezzanine with a large 25 foot high ceiling surrounded by glass and windows to see the action below and the sky above.
Prime Bowling + Billiards offers four boutique white bowling lanes along with billiards and darts in a cozy atmosphere. Play or sit back on one of the comfortable couches and watch the game on large flat panel TVs. Full restaurant and bar service is available. Prime is available for events and parties.
GO! Indoor Playground is a staffed venue for children ages 5-11. With a wide array of activities geared to engage, challenge and occupy your child, GO! is a fantastic spot to keep the kids busy while you have some fun at R1. GO! is also available for events and parties.
A 2,000 square foot VIP room, ideal for a large private party or event. Whether it’s catered food or gourmet pizza from a brick oven, R1 will make your important day special! With the racetracks below, direct access to Prime Bowling + Billiards, along with a full liquor bar if either is desired, you’ll be able to enjoy yourself in style.
