Rhode Island – Work is underway to replace and upgrade Providence viaduct of Interstate 95, one of the busiest areas of the interstate on the East Coast. The Providence Journal reports that there will be a number of planned improvements to the stretch of highway that carries traffic beyond the city center. Plans include expanding 12-foot lanes, replacing an overpass and widening exit 21 Federal Hill Viaduct that was built in 1964 and the Department of Transportation of the state says is deteriorating and badly in need of replacement . Southbound lanes will be replaced first, and traffic is expected to change next year, while the North will be completed in the fall of 2021 The total project cost is estimated at $ 193 million
