PROVIDENCE, R.I.- In honor of the back-to-school season, the Providence City Council
and Providence City Archives are featuring a new exhibit-Raising Providence: A
History of Public Education Through the Ages- through the end of September, and will
host an opening reception on Thursday, September 8th at 6:00 p.m. on the third floor
of City Hall. Council President Luis Aponte, Mayor Jorge Elorza, and Superintendent
Christopher Maher will discuss the history of Providence Public Schools and their
vision for the future.

The City Council and Providence City Archives are also working to collect and share
school memories from former Providence students; former students are invited to
submit their school photos and stories at the reception or via email through the end
of September to Caleb Horton (cthorton@providenceri.org). The Archives Department
is also working to collect yearbooks from Providence schools; yearbook donations may
also be arranged in person or via email.

Thursday’s event is free and open to the public and media. Light refreshments will
be served.
