Pawtucket, Slater Mill, and TEN31 to Host a Haunting New Festival
PAWTUCKET – Pawtucket, Slater Mill, and TEN31 will be hosting a brand new festival this October which promises to be frightfully fun for all ages. Mill City Haunts, which will be held on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights for the last two weeks of October, will be a collection of 39 events ranging from movies and plays to haunted houses and paranormal investigations, hosted in Pawtucket’s Historic Downtown and historic Daggett Farm in Slater Park.
“We are very excited here at City Hall for our first ever Mill City Haunts,” said Pawtucket Mayor Donald R. Grebien. “This is going to be a great event, and I hope that it gives patrons from around the state a chance to see what Pawtucket has to offer.”
“The planning for Mill City Haunts started over a year and a half ago, and now that we can see that vision coming to life we couldn’t be more excited,” said Slater Mill Executive Director Lori Urso. “This collection of happenings caters to thrill-seekers of all ages and budgets, and a range of fright appetites, so we’re looking forward to seeing a lot of people in the city during this Halloween season.”
Mill City Haunts will offer numerous attractions, with events such as a Halloween-themed lighting of City Hall kick off the festival, with other activities such as the Creature Feature Pathway, Charon, ferryman of the dead on the Blackstone River, and investigations of the most paranormally charged parts of the Old Slater Mill complex.
Two free double feature events will be taking place on Thursday October 18 & 25 at the Veteran’s Amphitheater, Films ranging from the family-friendly “Hotel Transylvania” to Stanley Kubrick’s classic “The Shining” will be screening. Classic Films screenings on Fridays and Saturdays will be held in the Blackstone Valley Visitor’s Center theater for a small fee.
Family friendly events, including the Children’s Halloween Party at the Library, and Pumpkins in the Park at Slater Park, will also be available.
Musical and theatrical performances round out Mill City Haunts, with the talents of students and professionals alike gracing the stage throughout October. Performances range from JMW student bands to a performance of the interactive haunted experience “Underland.”
The Haunted Tunnel at Slater Park – running on Friday and Saturday nights at Daggett Farm for all of October – is expected to continue being a major attraction as it has throughout the years. This event consists of a 10-minute walkthrough of a tunnel of terror populated by volunteers. The event is not recommended for children under 12.
