Providence – Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts today announced her support for Nellie Gorbea, Democratic candidate for Secretary of State.
“I have always been impressed with Nellie. Her life experience spans the private, non-profit and government sectors, and she has made long lasting, positive improvements in each of these areas. I know that as Secretary of State, she will work diligently to ensure the office best serves Rhode Islanders. I believe we need an experienced leader like Nellie to make sure we can move Rhode Island forward.”
Gorbea announced her candidacy for Secretary of State in July. With decades of experience in the private sector and in government, she is running to make government work for all Rhode Islanders. A former Deputy Secretary of State from 2002-2006, Gorbea is committed to making sure that businesses have easy access to the information they need to grow in Rhode Island’s economy, that government is transparent, and that all eligible voters can and do vote.
“Since being elected to the office of Lieutenant Governor, Elizabeth Roberts has been one of the foremost positive influences of our elected state leadership. Throughout her years of service in the Senate and as our Lt. Governor she has been dedicated to the well being of her fellow Rhode Islanders. She is someone who I have always admired and I am extremely honored to have her support.” said Gorbea.
Lt. Governor Roberts is co-chairing a Women for Nellie event on March 3rd. The event will help kick-off women’s history month in Rhode Island: Lt. Governor Roberts is the first woman to be elected Lt. Governor and Gorbea is the first Latina to run on the statewide ballot in Rhode Island. The event will take place at a women-owned technology firm, Embolden Design.
