Cranston Police arrest two suspects for breaking and entering
Colonel Michael Winquist, Chief of the Cranston Police Department, announces the arrest of two suspects caught while breaking into a home on Mill Street after the homeowner returned home to find one the suspects in her house holding her television.
The Cranston Police received a 9-1-1 call on 11/21/16 at approximately 11:56 AM from the owner of a Mill Street home stating a male suspect was in her house. The homeowner came home and entered the front door using her keys. As she walked into her dining room she came face-to-face with a male later identified as Vicente Ramirez, age 19, of Providence, who was in her adjoining sunroom holding her television. She retreated from the house and called 9-1-1 providing a description of Ramirez as officers were immediately dispatched. Ramirez fled on foot as police swarmed the area and located him operating a green 1996 Honda Accord fleeing the neighborhood on Sunset Terrace with the second suspect Jeffrey Feliz, age 18, also of Providence. The television was recovered on Sunset Terrace and both suspects were arrested and charged with breaking and entering, along with conspiracy. Both were arraigned by a Justice of the Peace and released on $5000 Personal recognizance.
“This homeowner did exactly what we expect when confronting a suspected burglar, which is to avoid confrontation and retreat to safety while calling 9-1-1 to let the police professionals intervene. This is the time of year more than ever that unscrupulous people prey on homes around the start of the holiday season hoping to find valuables and would be gifts. Today many homes have their own surveillance and anti-theft systems that can assist the Cranston Police in assuring a successful prosecution. We remind citizens and businesses to continue to sign up on our Camera Registration Program located on our website at www.cranstonpoliceri.com to notify us of their surveillance system,” said Major Todd Patalano.
