Biggest Winners of Oscars 2014
During the show of the most important film awards in the world, the name that stands out above the rest is not that of a performer, but a filmmaker. The last work of Alfonso Cuarón, ‘Gravity ‘, has taken seven statuettes in total, something available to very few movies that, beyond its impeccability in practically all technical areas either photography, sound and special effects , has been awarded the coveted Oscar for Best Director .
The Mexican director has always demonstrated precision behind the camera and his ability to go beyond the conventions, either in small movies like ‘Y Tu Mama Tambien ‘ or blockbusters like ‘ Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’. Now with the award-winning space odyssey starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, Cuarón has asserted the years working in technology and visual perfectionism with a win at everything he could hope for.
Neither his female lead or the film itself had options successfully overcome the dramatic confrontation with ’12 years of slavery ‘, recognized as the best of the year at the same time confirms the talent of newcomer Lupita Nyong’o, who was excited to pick up the statue in front of the watchful eyes of Julia Roberts and Jennifer Lawrence who, trips aside, could not defend her status as fashionable actress.
‘American Hustle’ can be considered the big loser of the night. The film by David O. Russell paled before its competitors despite having a nomination in each and every major category. At the interpretive level the duo of Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto made it clear that the Academy loves dramatic transformations of its stars without detracting at all their superb performances. Cate Blanchett won for her role in the Woody Allen film ‘Blue Jasmine’.
In other awards, the Oscar for best original screenplay was awarded for ‘ Her’, the best foreign film for the Italian ‘ The Great Beauty ‘ and two Oscars for ‘ Frozen’ confirming the critical support of the resurgence of one of the best Disney films with outstanding animation and an overwhelming song, ‘Let it go’.
The gala, hosted this time by Ellen DeGeneres, was kept at a proper level thanks to the many musical moments from the hand of Bono, Pink or Idina Menzel and others, who recovered the classical spirit of this type of ceremonies but with the breath of fresh air spread by it hostess through interaction with the nominated stars and some other shameless tricks. Your pizza delivery man among attendees or collective front row ‘selfie’ were some of the highlights of the show, which of course was not without mistakes and the words «twice Liza Minelli» at the beginning of the show, referring to the artist herself.
