AmeriCorps Members Kick Off Year of Service

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Tomorrow morning, Serve Rhode Island (ServeRI) at the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) will host AmeriCorps Rhode Island Opening Day in the Rhode Island State House Rotunda. AmeriCorps members support Rhode Island communities by being placed at an array of local non-profits and schools. Tomorrow, they are gathering to celebrate the official kick-off of their service year ahead.

During this event, AmeriCorps members will briefly introduce their programs and share their perspectives on why they serve, before taking the AmeriCorps Service Pledge.

The event will take place at Rhode Island State House Rotunda, 82 Smith Street, Providence on Friday, October 12, starting at 9 a.m. and the speaking program begins at 9:30 a.m.

ServeRI seeks to increase the number of and demand for volunteer and community service opportunities in Rhode Island. Administered by the Rhode Island Department of Education, ServeRI is the Governor-appointed Rhode Island Commission for National and Community Service, which awards AmeriCorps grants to organizations responding to local needs, promotes Rhode Islanders’ commitment to public service, and seeks to organize the collective effort of volunteer and service opportunities across the state. For FY2018, ServeRI received $3 million in support from the Corporation for National and Community Service, including operational support, AmeriCorps Education scholarships, and $1.75 million granted to 11 AmeriCorps programs.
