AAA: Rhode Island Gas Prices Up One Cent

Providence, R.I., July 6, 2020 — Rhode Island’s average gas price is up one cent from last week ($2.09), averaging $2.10 per gallon. Today’s price is 11 cents cheaper than a month ago ($1.99) and 63 cents cheaper than July 6, 2019 ($2.73). Rhode Island’s average gas price is 8 cents lower than the national average.

A slight drop in demand amid an increase in supplies comes as many states report increases in COVID-19 cases, potentially causing Americans to reconsider outings. However, for motorists who hit the road for the Independence Day holiday, gas prices were a welcome sight.

“Independence Day weekend gas prices were nearly 60 cents cheaper than last year and on top of that, they were the most inexpensive prices seen for the holiday since 2004,” said Lloyd Albert, Senior Vice President of AAA Public and Government Affairs.

AAA Northeast’s July 6 survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be $2.18, up a penny from last week ($2.17). Today’s national average price is 17 cents cheaper than a month ago ($2.01), and 57 cents cheaper than this day last year ($2.75).
