More than 40,000 people sign petition to deport Justin Bieber from the US
More than 40,000 signatures have been added to the online petition, which is on the White House’s We The People website, and it seems the Canadian singer’s arrest for drag racing and driving under the influence is the last straw for many.
The petition reads: «We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture. We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing, Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked. He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nations youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society.»
However, it’s unlikely Bieber will face deportation as his crimes are not severe enough. US immigration law reads an individual has to be convicted of a violent crime or sentenced to more than one year’s inprisonment to face deportation or be refused entry to the country.
The singer was reportedly caught participating in a drag race in a rented yellow Lamborghini on Thursday (23 January), where he was arrested and subsequently failed a sobriety test. He then admitted to drinking, smoking marijuana and taking antidepressants, according to police.
He was later released on bail and was quick to prompt more fury by seemingly comparing himself to late singer Michael Jackson.
