UFCW Local 328 Endorses Guillaume De Ramel for Secretary of State
PROVIDENCE – United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 328 today endorsed Aquidneck Island businessman Guillaume De Ramel in his campaign to become Rhode Island’s next Secretary of State. Started in 1937 by five meat cutters, UFCW Local 328 today is the largest union in southeastern New England, representing nearly 12,000 workers in food service, banking, transportation, manufacturing, health care, barbers & cosmetology and recycling.
“During tough economic times in our state and our region, Guillaume De Ramel understands that the most important thing he can do as Rhode Island’s next Secretary of State is to make it easier to do business in our state though greater openness and transparency,” said UFCW Local 328 President David Fleming. “He will continue to be a strong advocate for working men and women in Rhode Island and Local 328 will be working to get him elected this fall.”
“There is so much potential in our state and I know we can positively impact our economic climate by cutting red-tape, increasing transparency, and creating a new way of doing business here in Rhode Island,” said Guillaume. “I am pleased that the working men and women of Local 328 have endorsed my campaign and my vision for the Secretary of State’s office. I look forward to meeting with more Rhode Islanders, discussing the issues and building on this momentum in the weeks and months ahead.”
UFCW Local 328 joins the Johnston and Charlestown Democratic Town Committees, as well as North Providence Mayor Charlie Lombardi to support Guillaume in 2014. Last year, former Rhode Island Democratic Party Chairman Ed Pacheco – himself a former candidate for Secretary of State – as well as eleven members of the Providence City Council signed up to support his campaign.
Current Secretary of State, A. Ralph Mollis, is term-limited from seeking re-election to the same office in 2014.
