Little Compton, RI – U.S. Coast Guard rescued early Friday morning off Sakonnet Point two fishermen and still searching for the third missing fisherman.

The search began after the Little Compton Fire Department received a call from family members late Thursday night of the three missing fishermen.  The family members told them that they should had been home by 7pm.

First fisherman was discovered by Middletown’s fire Marine Unit holding on to rocks of the Sakonnet Lighthouse.  The second fisherman was found clinging to a lobster pot buoy.  Both were rush to hospitals for hypothermia.

The third fisherman has weather gear and flotation device on so the authorities are optimistic that they will find him.

The Coast Guard learned the boat lost its engine and began taking on water and sank.

All three fishermen are Rhode Island residents but their identities have not been released.
