Smithfield Town Councilwoman becomes the sixth Latino elected official to endorse Gina Raimondo in Democratic primary for governor
SMITHFIELD – This morning, Smithfield Town Councilwoman Suzy Alba endorsed Gina
Raimondo for governor in the Democratic primary. Explaining that Rhode Island
needs a strong, progressive leader who understands what is needed to move our
state forward, Councilwoman Alba is backing Gina because of her proven track
record of getting things done.
«Our state desperately needs leaders with the courage to bring people together
to make tough choices and solve big problems, said Suzy Alba. «I’m proud to
endorse Gina for governor because she knows our state can do better. Gina has
the sense of urgency and vision to help grow our economy, rebuild our
infrastructure, improve our public schools and make our communities safer by
getting military-style weapons off of our streets. I’m looking forward to
helping elect our state’s first woman governor – and one from our great town of
Smithfield — who will set the tone at the top to get us back on track.»
“I’m honored to have the support of Councilwoman Alba, one of my hometown’s
dynamic new leaders,” said Gina. “Smithfield was a great place to grow up and
it’s where my parents still live. I look forward to working with her to make
sure that we are providing the same quality public services that gave me so
many opportunities and growing our economy in a way that leaves no one behind.”
Councilwoman Alba became the sixth Latino leader backing Gina. Gina has already
been endorsed by Representative Grace Diaz, Representative Anastasia Williams,
Providence Councilwoman Sabina Matos, Providence Councilman Luis Aponte and
Providence Councilman Davian Sanchez. This week, Ingrid Aryada also joined the
Raimondo for Governor team as the Latino Outreach Coordinator and will be
helping to organize Gina’s growing Latino support.
