RI State Police Arrest Five Subjects for Driving While Intoxicated Over the Weekend
Colonel Steven G. O’Donnell, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety, announces that as a result of an ongoing effort to ensure the safety of the motoring public by removing impaired operators from our roadways, members of the Rhode Island State Police arrested five operators over the weekend for Driving Under the Influence with a blood alcohol content greater than .15.
• Benjamin Josue Saravia-Zelaya, age 34, of 124 Hartford Avenue, Providence, Rhode Island, arrested on March 8, 2014, at 10:20 p.m. on Hartford Avenue, Providence, charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol-1st Offense .15/Greater, breath test results: .206 and .224
• Amy Rowe, age 28, of 158 North Street, Warwick, Rhode Island, arrested on March 8, 2014 at 10:33 p.m. on Route 95 in the City of Warwick, charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol-1st Offense .15/Greater, breath test results: .310 and .304
• John Pena, age 53, of 266 Ten Rod Road, Exeter, Rhode Island, arrested on March 8, 2014 at 11:45 p.m. on Route 95 north in the City of Cranston, charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol-1st Offense .15/Greater, breath test results: .229 and .231
• Benjamin Polom, age 23, of 106 Sea View Avenue, North Kingstown, Rhode Island, arrested on March 9, 2014 at 12:08 a.m. on Route 95 south in the Town of Richmond, charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol-1st Offense .15/Greater, breath test results: .215 and .203
• Carlos Gomez, age 50, of 100 Henrietta Street, Providence, Rhode Island, arrested on March 10, 2014 at 12:10 a.m. on Union Avenue in the City of Providence, charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol-1st Offense .15/Greater, breath test results: .199 and .189
All of the individuals arrested were held overnight, arraigned the following morning, and released pending future court appearances.
«These arrests are significant. All the suspects were at least twice the legal blood alcohol content (BAC) or higher, and one was over three times the limit. I once again commend the work of our Troopers who prevented the possibility of five (5) tragedies,» stated Colonel O’Donnell.
