Colonel Steven G. O’Donnell, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of the Rhode Island Department of Public Safety, is pleased to announce the graduation ceremony of 26 new troopers from the Rhode Island State Police Training Academy.  The Commencement Ceremony will take place on:

Friday, July 29, 2016

12:00 p.m.

Rhode Island Convention Center

1 Sabin Street

Providence, Rhode Island

The 26 new troopers began 24 weeks of intensive, paramilitary training in February 2016.  The recruits were selected from 1,530 applicants.  The training included rigorous academic and physical fitness components.  “Today is an affirmation of 26 individuals’ dedication to something greater than them.  We are proud to share the accomplishment of our new troopers, with their families and friends, and we welcome them to our ranks,” stated Colonel O’Donnell.  We invite members of the media to join us in welcoming these new troopers into the ranks of the Rhode Island State Police.

The Honorable Gina M. Raimondo, Governor of the State of Rhode Island, and Colonel Steven G. O’Donnell, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police, will address the graduates and present them with their diplomas.  Colonel O’Donnell will administer the oath of office.

The ceremony will also include an Inspection of the class by Governor Raimondo and Colonel O’Donnell, a close-order drill marching demonstration by the new troopers, remarks by a member of the Recruit Training Academy Class, a video presentation highlighting an overview of the Training Academy, and presentation of class awards.
