Teenager Dies in Fatal Crash in Exeter RI
EXETER, RI – A 17-year-old West Warwick teenager died after his car crashed into a tree and rolled over on Victory Highway (Route 102) in Exeter around 2:30 p.m. today. The victim’s identity is not being released at this time pending notification of family.
Rhode Island State Police Captain Matthew Moynihan said the teenager was driving a 1999 Subaru sedan south on Route 102 at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle as he attempted to turn into Barber’s Trailer Park, on the Exeter-West Greenwich line. The vehicle struck a tree and rolled over.
The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene, Captain Moynihan said.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the crash at this time. The driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The crash is still under investigation by members of the Rhode Island State Police Hope Valley Barracks, Forensic Services Unit and Collision Reconstruction Unit.
