On July 28, 2016, at 2:00 PM, Troopers from the Rhode Island State Police Hope Valley Barracks and Officers from the Hopkinton Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash on Route 95 South in the Town of Hopkinton.

Initial investigation revealed that the tractor trailer was traveling on Route 95 south in the low speed lane in the Town of Hopkinton. At a point just north of Exit #1, the tractor trailer cut to the right in an attempt to avoid a vehicle which was changing lanes into the low speed lane.  The tractor trailer lost control, struck the guardrail and continued across the ramp for exit #1, entered into the tree line and collided head on into a tree. The operator of the tractor trailer was life flighted to Rhode Island Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The operator and lone occupant of the black Hyundai which was attempting a lane change, never made contact with the tractor trailer, stopped after witnessing the crash and contacted emergency personal immediately.  All lanes of Route 95 south at Exit #1 were closed for approximately two hours while the fire was extinguished and the tractor trailer was removed.

The motor vehicle crash continues to be under investigation by members of the Rhode Island State Police-Hope Valley Barracks, Rhode Island State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) and Forensic Service Unit (FSU).  It is requested that any persons who witnessed the accident contact State Police Headquarters at (401) 444-1068.
