State’s unemployment rate below the national average
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Governor Gina M. Raimondo released the following statement today regarding the August Jobs Report:

«Rhode Island’s job count remains at an all-time high, and our construction industry is helping to lead the way. Since the start of 2015, we’ve added nearly 5,000 construction jobs and nearly 17,000 jobs total. There are visible signs of this job growth with road projects being completed and cranes hanging over our Capitol City.

«However, with recent news that Benny’s will close later this year and Alexion will shut down its Rhode Island operation next summer, we need to continue our efforts to ensure that every Rhode Islander has the skills they need to compete in the changing economy. There is a lot of encouraging news in this jobs report, but also clear signals that we have to keep working to strengthen the middle class.»

The top five months for Rhode Island’s job count, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, are:
August 2017 – 499,700 jobs
July 2017 – 499,700 jobs
May 2017 – 496,600 jobs
June 2017 – 496,100 jobs
December 2006 – 495,700 jobs
