Registered sex offender charged in ‘upskirting’ complaint at Providence Place Mall

Providence – After the incident took place a photo of the suspect was distributed to local media
outlets. Police received several tips from the public, one of which was from a
detective from Lincoln, RI who was familiar with the suspect from prior incidents.

The suspect was identified as Gary Rasey, age 37, who has no permanent address.
Rasey was recently released from the ACI and is registered as a Level 3 sex offender
in Cranston for two counts of 1st degree sexual assault, which occurred in the town
of Lincoln. He is currently staying at the Harrington House located on the ACI
grounds in Cranston.

The victim positively identified Rasey and he was arrested by the PPD task force at
5 p.m. yesterday evening at the corner of Butler and Waterman Avenues in Providence.
Rasey is currently on probation until 2043. He was charged with 1 count of video
voyeurism and was held for court this morning.
