Raimondo’s Statement on Black History Month
PROVIDENCE, RI – Governor Gina M. Raimondo today released the following statement in honor of Black History Month.
«I’m deeply proud to lead our state in celebrating Black History Month and the generations of African-Americans who have made Rhode Island what it is today.
«Moving forward, we must unite in support of a system that is fair across the board and that supports opportunity for every Rhode Islander, regardless of their race. We’ve already taken steps this year to open doors for minority-owned businesses and to propose a new plan to provide free college tuition to every Ocean State student. My administration will fight every day to work towards real economic opportunity for all in our state who work hard and play by the rules.
«Diversity has always been the United States’ greatest strength-and nowhere more so than Rhode Island. The Ocean State was founded on the promise of freedom and tolerance, and it’s our privilege to uphold that legacy, now and always.»
