PROVIDENCE, RI – Governor Gina Raimondo issued the following statement today in response to national Republicans’ plan to repeal the individual mandate to pay for the Republican-Trump Tax Bill that offers a handout to the super wealthy.

«It’s bad enough that the Republican-Trump Tax Bill will raise taxes on hardworking, middle class Rhode Island families, now President Trump and national Republicans want to raise their health care premiums, too. A repeal of the individual mandate will be devastating for working families, and will create chaos and uncertainty across our economy. More than 95 percent of Rhode Islanders have health insurance and the rate of premium growth in our state is one of the lowest in the nation.

«I am standing up with our Congressional Delegation to fight for middle class Rhode Islanders. Hardworking families from Cranston, Woonsocket, Warwick and every other city and town in Rhode Island cannot afford to bear the burden of a tax cut for Donald Trump and the wealthiest Americans.
