Mayor Jorge Elorza, Public Safety Commissioner Steven M. Paré, and Chief of Police Colonel Hugh T. Clements, Jr. announce the appointment of two Providence Police Captains to the rank of Major

Providence, RI- Mayor Elorza, Commissioner Paré, and Colonel Clements this afternoon announce the appointment of Captains Robert Lepre and Oscar Perez to the rank of Major.

 
Captain Oscar Perez was sworn into the Providence Police Department on May 13, 1994 and is currently the Commanding Officer of Patrol Bureau Operations for the evening shifts. Prior to his current post, Captain Perez served in the Patrol Bureau, as a Detective in the Youth Service Bureau, the Intelligence and Special Services Division, the Gang Intervention Unit, the Neighborhood Response Team, the Community Policing Bureau and the Narcotics and Organized Crime Bureau.  Captain Perez was born in Medellin, Columbia and at age 14 departed for the United States where he attended school in Providence.

Captain Lepre was sworn into the Providence Police Department on January 10, 1998 and is currently serving as Commanding Officer of the Office of Professional Responsibility. Prior to his current post, Captain Lepre served as a Captain in the Uniform Division, a Detective Lieutenant in the Investigative Division, and a District Lieutenant for the District 5 area for three years. He also worked as an Investigator and a Sergeant in the Narcotics and Organized Crime Bureau, served as Officer in Charge of the Street Crimes Task Force for two years and was a Community Police Officer.  At the start of his career, Captain Lepre served as an officer in the Patrol Bureau before being promoted to Sergeant in the same division.  He was also a member of the Special Response Unit for eight years. Captain Lepre was born and raised in Providence.

 

Captains Perez and Lepre have both received numerous awards and commendations throughout their careers for excellence in police work and devotion to duty.
