Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that Julio Sosa (age 31), of Providence was found guilty on November 1, 2019 by a Providence County Superior Court jury of three counts of first-degree child molestation. The jury returned the verdict after one day of deliberations following a seven-day trial presided over by Superior Court Justice Netti C. Vogel.

A sentencing hearing for Sosa will be scheduled for a later date in Providence County Superior Court. He is currently being held at the Adult Correctional Institutions.

During the trial, the State proved beyond a reasonable doubt that on three separate dates between August 2013 and October 2014, Sosa molested a minor victim of whom he had care and custody for a period of seven years.

The victim was nine years old at the time of the assaults and disclosed the incidents at age eleven. The incidents all took place in the city of Providence.

Since 2017, Sosa has been on home confinement as a condition of his bail.

The Providence Police Department led the investigation into the case. Assistant Attorney General Ania Zielinski and Special Assistant Attorney General Jillian Dubois prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of the Attorney General.
