The Pawtucket Police Department received information that a threat had been made to a Pawtucket school via social media on October 3, 2016. Recently, there has been a national phenomenon where individuals are threatening schools wearing clown masks. Often times these threats are made via social media. Although these national occurrences have not resulted in an actual incident, the Pawtucket Police Department believes the safety of the students and the staff is paramount and takes each threat seriously.
After a thorough investigation, the Police Department determined that the threat made on October 3, 2016 was not credible they continued working towards identifying the source of the threat. On October 7, 2016, the Pawtucket Police Department arrested a juvenile in connection with the threat made through social media to the Pawtucket school earlier in the week. The juvenile will be charged with cyberstalking and cyber harassment.
The Police Department in conjunction with the School Department will continue to work together to ensure a safe environment to both the students and staff of the City of Pawtucket.
