Muslim Immigrant Slams Trump at Democratic Convention
Khizr Khan, the father of a fallen U.S. soldier, slammed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, asking «Have you even read the U.S. Constitution?»
Khan’s son Captain Humayun Khan, who emigrated to the U.S. from the United Arab Emirates with his family as a young boy, died in Iraq in 2004 when a car drove into a compound. He told his his soldiers to get on the ground and as he began walking to the car, it exploded. He was 27 years old.
«Hillary Clinton was right when she called my son ‘the best of America.’ If it was up to Donald Trump, he never would have been in America,» Khan said. His son was posthumously awarded with a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
Khan said he and his wife, who stood next to him as he delivered his speech, came to the U.S. «empty handed,» but knew they would be a able to raise their sons in a nation where they would be «free to be themselves and follow their dreams.»
«Donald Trump consistently smears the character of Muslims,» Khan said. «He disrespects other minorities, women, judges, even his own party leadership. He vows to build walls and ban us from this country. Donald Trump, you are asking Americans to trust you with our future. Let me ask you: Have your even read the the U.S. Constitution: I will gladly lend you my copy,» Khan said as he pulled a copy of the Constitution from his suit pocket. «Look for the words ‘liberty’ and ‘equal protection of law.’ »
Khan urged the billionaire businessman to visit Arlington Cemetery to «look at the graves of brave patriots who died defending» the U.S. «You’ll see all faiths, genders and ethnicities. You have sacrificed nothing and no one.»
Khan said, «I ask every patriotic American, all Muslim immigrants and all immigrants, to not take this election lightly.» He asked voters to honor the «sacrifice of my son and on Election Day take the time to get out and vote.»
