JAMESTOWN, R.I. – The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) would like to provide the following
update on construction activity for the Mount Hope Bridge. As part of the ongoing
maintenance & rehabilitation initiative to the Mount Hope Bridge, a night work
project is scheduled to begin Sunday, November 6, 2016. In addition to the daily
lane closures from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., this night work will necessitate periodic
lane closures from 9:00 p.m. – 5:30 a.m., as well as some short, full bridge
closures for up to fifteen minutes at a time. This situation will continue for
approximately two weeks. In an effort to reduce traffic impacts, RITBA is performing
this work overnight and is not allowing the contractor to mobilize each night until
well after the evening rush hour. The contractor is also required to complete the
work and break down equipment early each morning, in order to have all lanes open
for the morning rush hour. To plan your travel accordingly and get the latest on
construction activity and real-time traffic, visit RITBA’s website at RITBA.org.
This site provides the latest information concerning lane closures, construction
activity and traffic delays for the Newport Pell, Jamestown Verrazzano, Mount Hope
and Sakonnet River Bridges, in addition to the RT. 138 Connector.
