 Motorist in custody; pedestrian hospitalized after Central Falls crash

CENTRAL FALLS – On January 17, 2016 at approximately 3:05am, officers responded to the area of 535 Roosevelt Avenue for reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, the victim, identified as Gary Laramee (51) of Pawtucket was found lying in the roadway.

It was determined through a witness on scene that the suspect vehicle described as a dark colored Nissan with Massachusetts plates failed to stop and continued north on Roosevelt Avenue. A short time later a vehicle fitting the description, with heavy front end damage, was stopped several blocks away in Pawtucket.

The operator, later identified as Rigoberto Vasquez (53), of Pawtucket was placed into custody and later arraigned by a bail commissioner of the charges of driving while intoxicated – bodily injury; duty to stop – accident resulting in serious personal injury; refusal to submit to a chemical test; and driving with an expired license. He was ordered held on $100,000.00 bail with surety and later transported to the ACI until his re-arraignment in 6th District Court tomorrow.

The victim is currently listed in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital.
