 RI State Police Computer Crimes Unit and ICAC Task Force Arrest a Providence Man for Possession of Child Pornography and Indecent Solicitation of a Child

RI – Colonel Steven G. O’Donnell, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of Public Safety, announces that on Friday, February 21, 2014, members of the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force arrested Gregory Lombardi, Jr., age 20, of 61 Gesler Street, Apartment 31, Providence, Rhode Island, for the alleged Possession of Child Pornography and Indecent Solicitation of a Child.

Mr. Lombardi was arrested as a result of an investigation into numerous images of child pornography being posted onto different websites. The investigation lead to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Mr. Lombardi, alleging that he was responsible for posting the images.  This morning, members of the Rhode Island ICAC Task Force executed a court authorized search warrant at Lombardi’s residence; seized digital media and identified digital communications that involve Mr. Lombardi allegedly soliciting an underage boy for nude photos.

Mr. Lombardi was arrested and arraigned before the Honorable Magistrate Joseph P. Ippolito in Sixth Division District Court.  Bail was set at $10,000 with surety along with special conditions prohibiting Internet use and contact with children.  He was held as a Superior Court bail violator related to a previous arrest in 2012 by the ICAC Task Force for Possession of Child Pornography.  A bail violation hearing is scheduled for March 7, 2014.

The Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force actively engages in investigative efforts to identify subjects involved in child exploitation-related activities.  The Rhode Island ICAC Task Force Program is administered by the Rhode Island State Police and supports a national network of multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional task forces engaged in investigations, forensic examinations, and prosecutions related to Internet crimes against children and technology-facilitated child sexual exploitation.  The Rhode Island ICAC Task Force is comprised of members of the Rhode Island State Police Computer Crimes Unit along with detectives from the Coventry Police Department, Warwick Police Department, Pawtucket Police Department, Jamestown Police Department, Woonsocket Police Department, and North Kingstown Police Department; Portsmouth Police Department, Bristol Police Department and special agents from Homeland Security Investigations  (HSI) and United States Postal Inspection Services (USPIS).
