Lt. Governor McKee Announces Hiring of Policy Director
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Lt. Governor Daniel J. McKee announced on Monday that Drew Allsopp has joined the Office of the Lieutenant Governor as Director of Policy. Drew brings a wealth of policy experience, having served most recently at the Rhode Island Department of Education as Charter School Coordinator. From 2009 through 2013, Drew was Director of School Support at the non-profit Rhode Island Mayoral Academies (RIMA), where he worked with a coalition of Rhode Island municipal leaders to support a network of high-performing, intentionally diverse, regional public schools governed by mayor-led school boards. Drew began his career as a high school English teacher and department chair in the New York City public school system. He holds a master's degree in urban education policy from Brown University and a bachelor's from New York University. Drew will oversee policy in a number of key areas. With a theme of "Advance Rhode Island," Lt. Governor McKee is working to boost business friendliness statewide, particularly for small businesses; help municipalities be more efficient; and promote excellence and innovation in Rhode Island public schools. "Drew is deeply committed to moving the state forward, and I am thrilled to welcome him to my team as we continue the work of advancing our economy, our cities and towns, and our public schools," McKee said.
