Many of you know me for my leadership in education, business, economic development, social enterprise or one of the many other missions I care about in our community. Some of you don’t know me yet.
I am the second of 8 children whose parents immigrated here from Canada to find work. My wife Ann’s grandparents came from Italy for better opportunities as well. I grew up in Warwick, graduated from Warwick Vets High, and paid my own way through URI and Harvard Business School.
When people pull together, they’re a powerful force. This is the belief that inspired me to initiate National Neighborhood Day, Social Venture Partners-RI, RI Area Coalition for Excellence and other community building efforts in this beautiful place.
My professional experience includes serving as an executive at AT&T, building a successful life insurance practice, and launching and managing new technology enterprises. I currently serve as Managing Director at Ballentine Partners, a financial advisory firm.
I’ve been an active philanthropic and community leader as well. I’ve led and served on many Boards. Some highlights:
• Chairman of the Rhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education and member of the Rhode Island Board of Regents for Elementary and Secondary Education.
• Vice President and Director of the Harvard Business School Global Alumni Association
• Director of The Rhode Island Foundation, Big Picture Learning and The Business Innovation Factory.
• Chairman of RI Special Olympics and President of the University of Rhode Island Alumni Association.
I’ve also created and launched other efforts focused on improving our communities and supporting entrepreneurship and economic growth.
My wife and I have lived in Providence for twenty years, and raised our children here. We feel lucky to have made Providence our home.
Now I’d like to do more. I want to fully engage in the hard but necessary work of forging a better direction for Providence over the next 8 years.
I hope you will join me in this endeavor. Let’s start today building a better and brighter future for Providence
