Jordan Axt of Project Implicit Lectures on Intergroup Biases at Rhode Island College, March 20

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Jordan Axt of Project Implicit will speak on “Mind Bugs: The Ordinary Origins of Bias” at Rhode Island College on Wednesday, March 20, from 12:30-2 p.m. in Gaige Hall Auditorium. This event is sponsored by Dialogue on Diversity and Inclusion and is free and open to the public.

Axt’s research explores how people form and express intergroup bias and seeks to discover how intergroup biases are best conceptualized, measured and reduced.

He is a post-doctoral researcher at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and Center for Advanced Hindsight. Axt is also director of data and methodology for Project Implicit, a nonprofit organization and international collaboration between researchers interested in implicit social cognition – thoughts and feelings outside of conscious awareness and control. The goal of Project Implicit is to educate the public about hidden biases and to provide a “virtual laboratory” for collecting data on the Internet.

Axt’s work has been covered by media outlets that include National Public Radio, The Los Angeles Times and CBS News; and he has given presentations on implicit bias to faculty, legal, corporate and medical audiences.
