LPR News RI – I want to thank you for the interview this afternoon on the McCormick Quarry
Bridge No. 476 design aspect in East Providence, RI.
As a Latino woman engineer, I feel proud and thank my employer,
Commonwealth Engineers & Consultants, Inc. (CE&C), for the opportunity to be
part of this innovative bridge design project. As I mentioned during the
interview, this is a new type of design. Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC)
methods were used to construct the bridge. The bridge was constructed offsite
and moved into its final place during an 80 hour weekend road closure.
Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil abutments and precast substructure components
were used instead of the usual cast-in-place concrete reinforced substructures.
ABC methods allows for the least possible impact to the road users and to the
community.
