At the RI Community Food Bank Open House the First Gentleman, Andy Moffit and daughter Cecilia was present to help kick off the holiday food drive.

«Today is the holiday food drive, we brought our own bags of food that can help in a small way but there is so many kids and families here trying to just bring what they can, organize food, get people fed not only for the holiday season but throughout the whole year,» said Moffit.

People came to bring donations of non-perishable food, tour the Food Bank with a special Seek and Find picture game for the kids.  There were also sample recipes from the ComIMG_0778munity Cooking program.

The General Treasurer, Seth Magaziner was also present to help support the RI Community Food Bank. «Well I am here to support the Food Bank in this very important time ah this holiday season,»  said Magaziner.  «In our office, in the state’s treasurer, our employees have had a food drive over the last month to support the food bank so today we came to  deliver about ten boxes of food that our employees have donated.»

 

 

 

 

Kids got to try out sorting fresh produce for the food pantries and they participated in a nutrition project.

There was live music courtesy of the VOX, Voices of Christmas, teen singer/songwriter Emeline Easron and the Wheeler School Jazz Ensemble.  Ken Block and his family was also there in support of the food bank.

«My kids are playing with the Jazz band, that’s playing here, so we came by and ah wanted to listen to the music and I’ve been a supporter of the Food Bank in the past,» said Mr. Block.  «Their mission is so important to what happens here in Rhode Island they serve so many people who are in need, and  I am always happy to come out and help.»
