Governor Invites Rhode Islanders to State House for Annual Christmas Tree Lighting
PROVIDENCE, RI – In a video released today, Governor Gina M. Raimondo invited Rhode Islanders to attend the annual State House Christmas Tree Lighting celebration. This year’s celebration will be on Thursday, November 30 starting at 5:30pm. Governor Raimondo, First Gentleman Andy Moffit and their kids will light the Christmas Tree at 6:15pm.
«Christmas and the entire holiday season is a special time for my family, and I’m excited to share that time with Rhode Islanders from across our state. I’m looking forward to hosting Rhode Islanders of all ages to kick off the holiday season as we light our State House Christmas Tree,» said Governor Raimondo. «Come kick off the holidays with a night of family fun at the State House on November 30.»
After the tree is lit, the Governor and First Gentleman will read The Night Before Christmas, with an accompaniment by «The Governor’s Own» Rhode Island National Guard 88th Army Band. The celebration will include performances from the Scituate Elementary School Chorus and the De La Salle Middle School Chorus. As always, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be visiting the State House from the North Pole.
Attendees are asked to bring an unwrapped toy to «Fill a Cruiser» with the Rhode Island State Police. Toys will be donated to a variety of local charities for distribution to local kids in need.
This year’s Christmas Tree arrived at the State House today. The 25-foot tall Fraser fir was donated by Robert Vanderslice and Meg Kerr of North Kingstown.
