Innovative, First-of-its-Kind Venture to Donate Wedding and Dessert Proceeds
to Save The Lives of Malnourished Children Worldwide

Providence – Edesia and Russell Morin Catering & Events (“Russell Morin”), announced the launch of “Saving Lives is a Piece of Cake,” a new philanthropic initiative with the potential to save the lives of as many as 400 children each year. Russell Morin, one of the top wedding and corporate event planning companies in New England, will be donating a portion of every dessert purchased by their clients to Edesia. With Russell Morin catering over 350+ events a year, the estimated annual donation to Edesia could amount to over $15,000.
“We are thrilled to partner with Russell Morin to help save more lives each year,” said Navyn Salem, founder and CEO of Edesia. “Anyone who chooses Russell Morin for their special event – brides, grooms, event planners and corporate clients – should feel really good knowing that they also helped change the world for the better.»
“The culture at Russell Morin has always been about giving back to the communities we serve as well as to our employees,” said Russ Morin, president of Russell Morin Catering and Events. “The opportunity to help Edesia, a local non-profit organization, save lives on a global scale was an easy decision for our company. We hope that our partnership will inspire other organizations to support Edesia’s mission as well.”
Edesia manufactures Plumpy’Nut and other peanut-based, ready-to-use foods that help treat and prevent malnutrition in young children in countries such as Syria, Kenya and Liberia. Plumpy’Nut costs an average of $50 a box to manufacture and contains all of the nutrition necessary to bring a severely malnourished child back to good health in about seven weeks. Russell Morin, will now donate $50 to Edesia for every wedding cake or dessert station they sell and $25 for every ceremonial cake ordered through their bakery.
The partnership between Edesia and Russell Morin was first sparked when Edesia CEO, Navyn Salem, met Russell Morin CEO, R. Russell Morin, Jr., during the May 2016 launch of Edesia’s new factory, which Russell Morin catered.
“Everyone is still talking about the event and Russell Morin’s desserts,” said Salem. “They were fabulous.”
