Cranston Police Make Arrest After Investigating Domestic Stabbing
Colonel Michael Winquist, Chief of the Cranston Police Department, announces the arrest of Robert Burley, age 34, of 2015 Broad St (Apt 106), after an investigation into a domestic stabbing which occurred in the City of Cranston.
On May 9, 2017 at approximately 1:33 AM, the Cranston Police Department was contacted by the Warwick Police, who advised that they encountered a subject, later identified as Burley, at the Speedway Gas Station at 1112 Post Road, Warwick, RI. Warwick Police indicated that Burley was bleeding and that Burley stated he had been stabbed earlier in the night by his live-in girlfriend at their residence in the City of Cranston. Burley was transported to RI Hospital by the Warwick Fire Department for treatment of facial injuries. He remains in the intensive care unit and is expected to recover from his injuries.
Cranston Police Detectives furthered the investigation, to include processing the scene of at 2015 Broad Street (Apartment 106). Detectives also located the female subject involved in the incident, who was temporarily detained and interviewed. Based on the investigation, it was determined that Burley was the primary aggressor in the physical altercation and the female was a victim of a felony assault by Burley. While being assaulted, the victim is alleged to have acted in self-defense by utilizing an edged weapon against Burley prior to fleeing from the apartment. The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries and will not face any criminal charges.
Burley will later be arraigned at Rhode Island Hospital on the charges of Domestic Strangulation and Domestic Vandalism. He will also be arraigned as a fugitive from justice from the State of Pennsylvania for a parole violation warrant stemming from a Driving Under the Influence charge.
