 Cranston Police Investigating a Fatal Bicycle Crash

On August 16, 2016 at approximately 9:45 AM, officers from the Cranston Police Department responded to the intersection of Western Promenade and Park Avenue for the report of a male reportedly struck by a vehicle. Investigators determined that the male subject was operating a bicycle when he came into contact with a trailer being towed by a dump truck. The male subject was identified as Sunkashka Soch, age 18, of 93 Cass Street. Providence. Witnesses reported Soch was travelling at a high rate of speed on his bicycle as he entered the flow of traffic on Park Avenue without stopping. Soch crossed over the west bound lane of Park Ave and as he entered the eastbound lane, he struck the side of a heavy trailer which was being towed by a dump truck travelling east. The operator of the dump truck was identified as Joseph Gonsalves, age 61, of 74 Iroquois Road, Warwick.
Mr. Soch suffered severe injuries from the impact and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. The fatal accident is remains under investigation at this time.
