Cranston – Colonel Michael J. Winquist, Chief of the Cranston Police Department, announces that the Department’s Patrol and Detective divisions are actively investigating a bank robbery which occurred at approximately 12:38pm this afternoon at the Bank Rhode Island branch located at 1047 Park Avenue, Cranston, Rhode Island.

According to bank employees, the suspect, entered the bank and handed a note to a bank teller indicating she would be shot if she did not empty the cash register. The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5’7 to 6’0, wearing a black hooded jacket, white scarf partially covering his face, jeans, white sneakers with black laces, a grey and red knit hat, and gloves. After receiving approximately one thousand dollars in United States Currency, the suspect fled on foot towards the rear of the bank. No bank employees or customers were injured during the robbery.

If any member of the public encounters an individual matching the suspect in the bank surveillance photographs, do not approach and call 9-1-1 as the subject should be considered armed and dangerous.
