Colonel Michael J. Winquist, Chief of the Cranston Police Department, announces members of the Cranston Police Special Victims Unit; along with RI Human Trafficking Task Force- Homeland Security Investigation (Providence), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Providence Police Department conducted a “Sting Operation” targeting “Johns” who respond to escort advertisements on “Backpage.com”.
On Friday, January 29, 2016, the team of Detectives and Agents set up at an undisclosed location in Cranston. The goal of the operation was geared towards the people, aka “Johns,” responding to escort advertisements; ultimately, attacking the demand side of prostitution. If there is no demand, there is no need for the service.

Undercover Detectives posed as prostitutes on the internet site. After the operations were concluded thirteen men solicited the women for sex; therefore, they were arrested and charged with the following:
