Cranston Police Arrest Suspect for Murder
Colonel Michael J. Winquist, Chief of the Cranston Police Department, announces the arrest of Michael T. Marrapese, age 40, of 245 Bay View Avenue, Cranston, RI for the murder of Lauren Ise, age 29, of the same address.
On the morning of March 13, 2019, the Cranston Police Department was contacted by the Providence Police Department advising that they had received information that Ms. Ise had been murdered by her estranged boyfriend, Michael Marrapese. Members of the Cranston Police Department responded to 245 Bay View Avenue, Cranston, RI to conduct a well-being check. When Officers made entry into the apartment, they discovered Ms. Ise deceased. Based on the information provided by the Providence Police Department and the observations of responding officers, a homicide investigation was initiated.
Through interviews of witnesses, Michael Marrapese was identified as the suspect. A short time later, Michael Marrapese was observed walking on Cranston Street in the City of Providence at which time he was placed in custody. The investigation is continuing, including the execution of search warrants in the cities of Cranston and Providence, as well as the processing of evidence.
The Cranston Police Department was familiar with the suspect and victim through prior contacts including calls for service at 245 Bay View Avenue for domestic disturbances involving Mr. Marrapese and the victim. The victim did not have a protective order in effect against Marrapese at the time of her death but recently reported feeling threatened by Mr. Marrapese after he moved out of the residence.
This evening, Michael Marrapese will be arraigned by a Justice of the Peace at Cranston Police Headquarters on the charge of First Degree Murder/Domestic.
Hewill be presented for formal arraignment tomorrow in Third District Court in Warwick.
Colonel Winquist stated, “This homicide appears to be another instance of a volatile domestic relationship that escalated and resulted in the loss of human life. Individuals involved in abusive relationships often feel helpless orfearful of reporting these incidents to anyone and seeking a protection order. I hope that these victims recognize help is available, to include temporary shelter and other resources. It is critical that victims contact law enforcement, a domestic violence advocate, family member or friend.
