PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Councilman Michael Correia (Ward 6) has released the following
statement regarding an accident at the intersection of Leah and Fairview Streets
that resulted in the death of a 21 year old dirt bike motorist on Saturday evening:

«I am saddened by the untimely death of a young man killed on his dirt bike over the
weekend, and I wish his family and loved ones peace during this traumatic time. This
incident underscores how critically important it is for all motorists to abide by
city traffic laws. Dirt bikes and other recreational vehicles are not permitted for
use on city streets. Stop signs and traffic lights are placed strategically to
protect all motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists; I urge everyone traveling in our
neighborhoods to adhere to them at all times. I also urge parents and owners of dirt
bikes and ATVs to find appropriate trails for their use, and always ride with proper
eye and head protection. I will work with Providence public safety officials to
heighten enforcement in the sixth ward and throughout the City to mitigate these
issues before another life is lost under similar circumstances.»
