PAWTUCKET - U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (D-RI) issued the following
statement today after Congressional leaders released an omnibus appropriations
package for Fiscal Year 2017:
"This proposal is an important first step in preserving critical resources for Rhode
Island families. Despite Donald Trump's best efforts, this bill includes zero
funding for a border wall or a cruel deportation force. Instead, it preserves
funding for local manufacturing economies like Rhode Island's. It increases funding
for the National Endowment for the Arts and Pell Grants for students from low-income
households. It expands funding for the National Park Service and the National
Institutes for Health. And it protects critical health care resources for women by
funding Planned Parenthood."
"I'm pleased that Democratic lawmakers defeated President Trump's worst proposals. I
look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues as this bill moves ahead."
