Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation Celebrates Military Appreciation Month

Jacksonville, FL – During Military Appreciation Month, Children of Fallen
Patriots Foundation (Fallen Patriots) honors the heroic sacrifices that soldiers,
surviving spouses and their children have endured and overcome. This awareness month
was created to ensure the nation was given the opportunity to publically demonstrate
their appreciation for the sacrifices and successes made by our service members,
past and present. Leading up to Memorial Day, Fallen Patriots honors the inner
strength of military families: the soldier, spouse and scholar.

Commending Graduating Scholars

During graduation season, Fallen Patriots is reminded of the honor and privilege it
is to be an influential part of our scholars’ journeys. Despite tremendous
loss, graduating scholars have achieved an instrumental step to fulfilling their
dreams. Fallen Patriots celebrates their achievements, as well as the generous
donors who have helped the foundation make surviving scholars’ dreams
possible.

With the thought of her father’s success and Fallen Patriots help, Hannah
Davis has overcome challenges and achieved a noteworthy milestone in her life.

“My father went above and beyond in his service. He walked as a guard at the
Tomb of the Unknown Solider, flew as a Blackhawk pilot and served in the Special
Forces,” explained Hannah. “He pushed every limit in his career to
become the best that he could. His sacrifice drives me to do the same in my
endeavors.”

Hannah will graduate, this May, with a Bachelor’s in Advertising from Michigan
State University. Her father’s sacrifice doesn’t just represent a future
for her, but for everyone.
Surviving Moms

Fallen Patriots admires surviving moms on Mother’s Day, a day to pay respect
to the spouses and families of the fallen. Over 97% of those killed in action are
men, leaving mothers, who earn on average less than $50,000 per year, with the
financial responsibilities of raising a family. Surviving moms endure many
struggles, but also find comfort in knowing there are organizations like Fallen
Patriots who want to help.
Recognizing Fallen Patriots Day

Officially proclaimed by mayors and governors throughout the nation, May 13th is
recognized as Fallen Patriots Day. This special day honors the bravery of surviving
children while also creating awareness for Fallen Patriots’ mission.

In 2014, mayors and governors across the country, including military-friendly
Jacksonville, Washington DC, Charlotte, Columbus, Dallas, and Birmingham, as well as
the state of Florida, officially proclaimed this holiday.

Honoring the Fallen

Memorial Day is a time when our nation reflects on the ultimate sacrifice that so
many soldiers in uniform have made. Fallen Patriots honors those who died defending
our country, every day, by providing college scholarships for children of the
fallen.

Nicole Canegata’s life has never been the same since she lost her father on
January 20th, 2007. Her father, David C. Canegata III, died when his Black Hawk
Helicopter crashed from enemy fire during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Nicole believes
that although the void of missing her father will never be filled, he served a
higher and greater purpose. She is grateful for his selfless spirit, and salutes his
bravery.

Nearly 20,000 children have lost an active duty parent in the military over the last
35 years. Fallen Patriots works to find each and every child to ensure they receive
all necessary college funding. By providing support for surviving children, like
Nicole, Fallen Patriots is making an instrumental investment in the future of
America.
